Chronic prurigo
Concept
Prurigo nodularis is a subtype of chronic prurigo, and is manifested as intense pruritus and dome-shaped nodular skin lesion.
Pathogenesis
The pathogenesis is unknown, and seems to be neuronal sensitivity in the pruritus pathway, which causes recurrent circle of pruritus-scratching. Patients may take on atopic tendency or suffer from atopic dermatitis.
Clinical manifestation
Intense pruritus. Most patients tend to scratch until dermatorrhagia occurs or it feels pain.
Therapeutic measures
There is no particularly effective therapeutic method at the time. Only local antipruritus therapy is available.
